Hybrid Approach for Gist Generation:Headline Generation Vijaya Pal Reddy Panuganti
Response to Disaster:Psychosocial, Community, and Ecological Approaches Richard Gist, Bernard Lubin
Gist is a powerful book that reviews and examines what the journey to adulthood entails, along with a clear look at those parenting efforts that have proven not to work over the years. ´´Many hours and much emotional energy are spent in parenting strategies where nothing positive is produced.´´ Gist is a fascinating look at many aspects of life that wouldn´t typically be associated with parenting. But the result is a new way to think about parenting that is effective, efficient, and enjoyable. The audiobook´s focus on life-readiness offers parents a new lens through which to see their parenting interactions and translates to an approach that eliminates many of the power struggles and ineffective patterns that can rob families of much of their joy. 1. This is a summary of Eric Ries´ The Lean Startup: How Today´s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses. Most startups fail. But many of those failures are preventable. The Lean Startup is a new approach being adopted across the globe, changing the way companies are built and new products are launched. Eric Ries defines a startup as an organization dedicated to creating something new under conditions of extreme uncertainty. This is just as true for one person in a garage or a group of seasoned professionals in a Fortune 500 boardroom. What they have in common is a mission to penetrate that fog of uncertainty to discover a successful path to a sustainable business. The Lean Startup approach fosters companies that are both more capital efficient and that leverage human creativity more effectively. Inspired by lessons from lean manufacturing, it relies on ´´validated learning´´, rapid scientific experimentation, as well as a number of counter-intuitive practices that shorten product development cycles, measure actual progress without resorting to vanity metrics, and learn what customers really want. It enables a company to shift directions with agility, altering plans inch by inch, minute by minute. Rather than wasting time creating elaborate business plans, The Lean Startup offers entrepreneurs - in companies of all sizes - a way to test their vision continuously, to adapt and adjust before it´s too late. Ries provides a scientific approach to creating and managing successful startups in an age when companies need to innovate more than ever. Josh Waitzkin knows what it means to be at the top of his game. A public figure since winning his first National Chess Championship at the age of nine, Waitzkin was catapulted into a media whirlwind as a teenager when his father´s book Searching for Bobby Fischer was made into a major motion picture. After dominating the scholastic chess world for 10 years, Waitzkin expanded his horizons, taking on the martial art Tai Chi Chuan and ultimately earning the title of World Champion. How was he able to reach the pinnacle of two disciplines that on the surface seem so different? ´´I´ve come to realize that what I am best at is not Tai Chi, and it is not chess,´´ he says. ´´What I am best at is the art of learning.´´ With a narrative that combines heart-stopping martial arts wars and tense chess face-offs with life lessons that speak to all of us, The Art of Learning takes listeners through Waitzkin´s unique journey to excellence. He explains in clear detail how a well-thought-out, principled approach to learning is what separates success from failure. Waitzkin believes that achievement, even at the championship level, is a function of a lifestyle that fuels a creative, resilient growth process. Rather than focusing on climactic wins, Waitzkin reveals the inner workings of his everyday method, from systematically triggering intuitive breakthroughs, to honing techniques into states of remarkable potency, to mastering the art of performance psychology. Domain-Driven Design (DDD) is an approach to software development for complex businesses and other domains. DDD tackles that complexity by focusing the team´s attention on knowledge of the domain, picking apart the most tricky, intricate problems with models, and shaping the software around those models. Easier said than done! The techniques of DDD help us approach this systematically. This reference gives a quick and authoritative summary of the key concepts of DDD. It is not meant as a learning introduction to the subject. Eric Evans´ original book and a handful of others explain DDD in depth from different perspectives. On the other hand, we often need to scan a topic quickly or get the gist of a particular pattern. That is the purpose of this reference. It is complementary to the more discursive books. The starting point of this text was a set of excerpts from the original book by Eric Evans, Domain-Driven-Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software, 2004 - in particular, the pattern summaries, which were placed in the Creative Commons by Evans and the publisher, Pearson Education. In this reference, those original summaries have been updated and expanded with new content. The practice and understanding of DDD has not stood still over the past decade, and Evans has taken this chance to document some important refinements. Some of the patterns and definitions have been edited or rewritten by Evans to clarify the original intent. Three patterns have been added, describing concepts whose usefulness and importance has emerged in the intervening years. Also, the sequence and grouping of the topics has been changed significantly to better emphasize the core principles. This is an up-to-date, quick reference to DDD. Eric Evans is the author of Domain-Driven Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software, 2004. He coined the term domain-driven design (DDD) and laid out its principles in that book. Since then he has continued to focus his energies in the area of DDD, teaching and continuing to apply DDD on real projects, as well as collaborating with other leaders in both the DDD community and the broader software development community.
